A Defining Performance
In 2019, Ava Stearns delivered an unforgettable performance aboard Acer K, capturing one of equitation’s most prestigious honors — the ASPCA Maclay National Championship at the National Horse Show.
The Course and the Challenge
Riders contested Bobby Murphy’s thoughtfully designed 14-effort course, testing rhythm, precision, and form across airy verticals and solid oxers. As the 92nd rider to enter the ring, Stearns and Acer K produced a seamless, poised trip that embodied the essence of equitation excellence.
The Final Ride-Off
In the decisive test, finalists were challenged to canter directly to fence 1, counter-canter fence 11, navigate the 12a–12b combination, execute a prompt halt, and hand-gallop fence 5 to finish. As the last to go, Stearns met the pressure with composure beyond her years.
A Lasting Legacy
Her precision, quiet effectiveness, and flawless execution secured the win — an iconic moment in Maclay history that continues to inspire equitation riders today.
