Sterling Malnick, aboard her own 14-year-old Selle Francais gelding Calgary Tame, for the U.S., covered the ground the quickest and achieved efficient fence angles to win the $32,000 CSI2* Speed class during the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ Ocala on Thursday by a bit more than half a second. It was the first class of the day in the World Equestrian Center (WEC) arena as part of week seven of the Winter Spectacular.
World No. 10 McLain Ward and the 10-year-old Zangersheide gelding Snapchat Van De Broekkant Z finished in second place.
It was a North American top-three finish as Canada's Erynn Ballard and Paladin 116, a 9-year-old Westphalian gelding, earned the yellow ribbon in the 1.40-meter class that saw 46 competitors.
Ballard has been amassing top ribbons of late. She won the $32,000 CSI5*-W speed class on Wednesday at WEC by more than one second, and she rode to victory in a 5* class in Wellington on Sunday.
