Coming off a 5* win in Wellington on Sunday, Erynn Ballard ruled the speed game on day one of the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ at the World Equestrian Center (WEC) in Ocala. Ballard, representing Canada, rode the 14-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare, Her Game Ball BG, to the top of the $32,000 CSI5*-W speed class on Wednesday by more than one second.
Gaining confidence heading into the Grand Prix Qualifier
The Canadian Olympian and Game Ball have been competing together since July of 2025 and have now recorded their sixth FEI victory. Ballard has been riding for Ilan Ferder Stables for nine years. Ballard and Ferder decided to go for speed in Wednesday’s class to give Game Ball confidence heading into Thursday’s grand prix qualifier, which will be their first 1.55 meter-class together.
Just three days ago, Ballard won the CSI5* Hermès classic aboard De Flor 111 Z Santa Rosa at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington, where her victory came by more than 4.5 seconds over the runner-up.
In the field of 37, American Hunter Holloway and the 15-year-old Westphalian mare Pepita Con Spita came in second while world No. 8 Nina Mallevaey of France, with My Clementine, the 11-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare, finished in third place in the 1.45-meter class. Ballard's ride on Game Ball came later in the order of go, and after Holloway and Mallevaey.
American Jacob Pope with Jecibelle was the fastest four-faulter, coming in 13th, on a time of 62.73, just 0.04 off Ballard's winning time.
