Toowoomba Showgrounds to Host Equestrian Events at Brisbane 2032 Olympics
Recommendations highlight venue upgrades and anticipated benefits for the region

The Toowoomba Showgrounds has been confirmed as the venue for equestrian events during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games. This decision follows a 100-day review of potential stadium options carried out by the Games Independent Infrastructure Coordination Authority (GIICA), which presented its findings to the Queensland Government on March 8, 2025.
The recommendations indicate that the inner-city Victoria Park will serve as the Main Stadium, with a capacity of around 60,000 seats. Furthermore, it suggests that the upgrades to Toowoomba Showgrounds proceed to accommodate the equestrian disciplines at the Games. Toowoomba was selected from various submissions for equestrian venues, which included Morgan Park and the Gold Coast Turf Club. Located about two hours west of Brisbane, Toowoomba already hosts international level eventing classes and other equestrian events. Officials from Toowoomba Royal Showgrounds expressed their excitement on social media, noting that the 2032 Olympics and Paralympics will provide significant benefits for the region, such as enhanced visibility, tourism, and economic growth. They emphasized that the infrastructure improvements will leave a lasting legacy for future generations.
Notably, Toowoomba is also known as the birthplace of Chris Burton, an Australian equestrian Olympic medallist, who has recently returned to Australia. Burton, the silver medallist from the Paris 2024 individual event, attended the launch of Toowoomba's Olympic bid and may be considering competing for another Olympic medal in 2032.
