At the age of 35, Ludger Beerbaum's Goldfever, who had won everything from German championship gold to Olympic gold, has passed away. "Of course, we are all very sad today that Goldfever is no longer with us – but we also look back with great gratitude and a little pride on his successes and the time we spent together," Ludger Beerbaum announced in a statement from Beerbaum Stables.
Goldfever – 10 years of top-level sport
The Grasso Z son began his career in show jumping competitions in 1996. Ludger Beerbaum took over the chestnut stallion in 1998 and, by 1999, with eight victories in the advanced class, he was already virtually unbeatable. This was followed by the team gold medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. The stallion continued his career in this "victorious manner" and was highly successful in the international top-level sport until 2009.
There are no better words than "Thank you, Goldfever, and farewell", as the Beerbaum Stables team says goodbye to this exceptional stallion, when words are hard to find.
Saying farewell to a successful stallion
Beerbaum Stables wrote: "Farewell to Goldfever 🤍">At the ripe old age of 35, the stallion, who accompanied the career of his rider Ludger Beerbaum like no other horse, passed away at his home stable in Riesenbeck."
In a unique sporting career in which Goldfever won gold medals at the Olympic Games, European Championships, and German Championships, his victories in the Grand Prix of Aachen and Calgary hold a special place and made him a legend in show jumping.>After the end of his sporting career in 2009, he remained active for some time at the Beerbaum stud farm and enjoyed his retirement on the farm in Riesenbeck in recent years.>"Of course, we are all very sad today that Goldfever is no longer with us – but we also look back with great gratitude and a little pride on his successes and the time we spent together," says Ludger, including in particular Marie Johnson, who looked after Goldfever during his sporting career, and Petra Schmid, who cared for him every day until today.
Together with his owner Madeleine Winter-Schulze, the entire Beerbaum Stables team says, "Thank you, Goldfever, and farewell.""
