Tim Gredley Bids Emotional Farewell as Imperial HBF Joins McLain Ward’s String

British team showjumper Tim Gredley has shared his top mount, Imperial HBF, has officially been sold to U.S. Olympic rider McLain Ward.

The 12-year-old gelding and Gredley have enjoyed a remarkable partnership over the past two years, competing at some of the sport’s most prestigious events, including Nations Cups, World Cup qualifiers, and five-star Grands Prix. Together, they delivered standout performances on the global stage, solidifying Imperial HBF’s reputation as one of Britain’s top show jumping horses. Bred by Laura Tinto of HBF Equestrian and produced in his early years by Scottish rider Alex Barr, the son of Glasgow VH Merelsnest was purchased by Gredley in 2022. Imperial HBF was placed under Unex Equestrian ownership, alongside Tim’s father Bill Gredley and his wife Rachel.

The partnership saw impressive results, notably delivering two exceptional rounds in Abu Dhabi, which capped a string of strong finishes at five-star competitions. Their consistent form earned them qualification for this year’s FEI World Cup™ Final. Imperial HBF had also been considered a strong contender for a place on the British team for the 2025 European Show Jumping Championships.

As Imperial HBF embarks on this exciting new chapter with McLain Ward, his departure marks the end of a remarkable journey for Tim Gredley — one defined by trust, talent, and unforgettable achievements on the world stage. For both rider and horse, the future is bright, and Imperial HBF’s legacy is only just beginning.
