The $15,000 UF Veterinary Hospital USHJA National 3’ Open Hunter Derby got underway early Friday morning in Hunter 1, drawing a competitive field of 19 professional riders all chasing top honors.
Tosh and Captain Take Control in the First Round
Maddie Tosh set the tone aboard Ceil Wheeler’s Captain, a 10-year-old Dutch Warmblood gelding by Verdi. The pair delivered a seamless and polished classic round that impressed both judging panels, earning a leading score of 93 to sit atop the leaderboard heading into the handy.
Consistency Carries Through the Handy
Returning with the same confidence and precision, Tosh guided Captain through a smooth and efficient handy round, posting a score of 89.75. Their two-round total of 182.75 proved unbeatable, securing the blue ribbon and a strong start to Friday’s hunter competition.
