The Dutta Corp. USEA Young Event Horse (YEH) East Coast Championships, presented by Dubarry of Ireland, runs alongside the Maryland 5 Star, giving the next generation of eventing talent a chance to shine.
Designed as eventing’s ultimate talent search, the YEH program identifies promising four- and five-year-old horses with the potential to rise through the sport’s levels. Each horse is evaluated on dressage performance, conformation, and jumping ability, offering judges a complete picture of future upper-level prospects.
To qualify, horses must achieve a score of 75% or higher at a recognized event. Competition takes place Thursday and Friday, alongside the CCI5*-L and CCI3*-L divisions, creating an inspiring showcase where developing prospects and world-class athletes share the same stage.
The highlight of the week is the five-year-old division, where the winner earns the coveted Holekamp/Turner Young Event Horse Lion d’Angers Grant—a chance to represent the U.S. at the FEI World Young Horse Championships at Le Lion d’Angers, France, in the seven-year-old CCI3*-L division. In partnership with the USEA, The Dutta Corp. provides a round-trip international flight for the winning horse, supporting their journey to the world stage.
The USEA YEH East Coast Championships are made possible in part by the Michael Erin Busch Sports Fund through the Maryland Sports Commission’s Youth and Amateur Sports Grants program, highlighting a shared commitment to nurturing the next generation of eventing excellence.
