Liz Halliday Returns To Her Kentucky Home

Olympian Liz Halliday is back in her Lexington, Kentucky, home since being hospitalized and spending time at two rehabilitation facilities following a fall at the USEA American Eventing Championships in August 2024.

Message on social media

Halliday shared a social media update on Tuesday, January 21.

"This is the most important update I’ve given you since my accident happened! After spending 16 months in hospitals and two different rehab facilities in Chicago and Dallas, I finally returned HOME to Lexington just before Christmas."

The road home

After leaving the hospital toward the end of September 2024 with a traumatic brain injury, Halliday spent time at the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, a rehabilitation hospital in Chicago. She then relocated to the Centre for Neuro Skills (CNS) in Dallas, Texas.

She announced her move to the CNS in an April 2025 social media post just before the Kentucky CCI5* Three-Day Event, wishing her fellow competitors the best for a safe and successful competition.

In her Tuesday post, Halliday shared the following on Facebook:

"It’s hard to describe all of the emotions you experience when you walk through the door to your own home for the first time in so long … joy, gratitude, and a sense of pride that all of the hard work I have done over the past 16 months has brought me to this point.

My recovery journey is far from over. I’ve converted my office into a home gym and am working on getting stronger every day. I am still committed to my weekly therapy sessions to continue working on my speech and regaining more mobility. And I am continuing to ride at a local facility, which has been so beneficial in my recovery.

I am excited to continue to improve, and I am so grateful to you all for cheering me on throughout this recovery journey. I still have a long way to go, but I’ll never give up, and I’ll never stop fighting."

#KeepFightingLiz has been used since Halliday's accident to amplify support.
