Eventing Season Begins for Riders and Ponies

With a few injuries observed late last year, the ponies have been gradually conditioned, and now focus shifts to fitness as both riders and horses work to convert excess weight into muscle. Interestingly, the UK Eventing season coincides with Australia's, each commencing after a seasonal break. Although frost remains on the ground in the UK, Gemma has been actively participating in cross-country schooling and attended a combined training day to prepare her team.

This preparation proved beneficial as she and PHS Hilton secured second place in a Novice section at Tweseldown, behind renowned rider Tim Price. The next events for Gemma and her horse include Barbury Castle followed by participation in the Eventing Spring Carnival at Thoresby Park, where they will advance to Open Intermediate. Prior to the start of the season, the team took a brief holiday to Austria for their eldest daughter's 30th birthday celebration, where Gemma was also present. Despite Stuart’s ongoing recovery from a broken neck and lower back issues, he participated in various activities associated with the trip. The team also gained international attention by featuring in a Bates Saddles and FEI promotional video titled 'Ride through time.'

Looking forward to 2025, the team plans to progress their horses, Caruso, Catfish, and Fernhill Aisling Star, to 2* and 3* levels, whilst aiming to establish Viennese at 4*. They aim to make room for new horses in their program as well. Upcoming events in their calendar include Stuart serving as XC Course Designer at Tamworth International on March 22nd and 23rd, and riding in Canberra and Quirindi International events in early April.

We are really looking forward to it.
