Kelly Cornelis is parting with her mare Baloucante di Luna, who is set to join American rider Karl Cook. Cook, a silver medalist with his national team at the Paris Olympic Games, will now ride the 7-year-old daughter of Balou du Rouet and Canturano I.
Cornelis bred Baloucante herself and has both the mare's mother and grandmother in her stable. She developed the mare up to the 1.45m level, where they compiled an impressive record. A significant highlight was their participation in the World Championship for Young Horses in Lanaken, where they reached the grand final after delivering two swift, faultless rounds on both days.
Following negotiations facilitated by All In Horses (Belgium) and Kristin Hardin (USA), Baloucante is heading to the States. For Cornelis, this farewell carries mixed feelings. She reflects on the unique bond they shared, noting it is unlikely she will encounter another horse like Baloucante. However, she is reassured that the mare will thrive under the guidance of one of the top riders in the world and will have every opportunity to realize her potential.
