Geñay Vaughn on her 2025 World Cup Final mount Gino wins Thermal qualifying Grand Prix in first of two events in California to earn a start at the championship in Fort Worth, Texas next April.
Geñay of Elk Grove, California was awarded 69.935% for the win on the 14-year-old gelding with only five rider and horse combinations in the class.
Charlotte Jorst based in Wellington, Florida on the 12-year-old gelding Zhaplin Langholt was runner up on 66.565%.
Günter Seidel of Cardiff, California and a three-time Olympian for USA rode the 16-year-old mare Equirelle to third place on 66.174%.
The low number of entries in California CDIs in recent years, as well as the addition of World Cup events in Canada and Mexico, has led to the number of championship qualifiers being cut to two this year. The second event in California is scheduled for Del Mar at the end of February.
The Freestyle is scheduled for Saturday to earn points toward qualifying for the Final.
