Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Ben Maher proved once again that class is permanent, scorching around the grass derby field to capture Saturday’s $32,000 KeyFlow USA CSI3* 1.45 m Speed. Piloting the ever‑reliable sixteen‑year‑old Dutch Warmblood gelding Exit Remo, Maher devoured Ana Catalina “Catsy” Cruz’s flowing course and stopped the clock in 61.73 seconds—more than a full second clear of the chasing pack.
Six‑time U.S. Olympian McLain Ward threw down a serious challenge aboard La Serra but had to settle for second in 62.65 seconds, while rising American star Natalie Dean guided Iron Dames Caramba de Janeiro into third on 63.62 seconds. Yet none could match Maher’s precision or Exit Remo’s trademark turn of foot.
The victory adds another highlight to Exit Remo’s résumé as a stalwart Nations Cup campaigner; the gelding carried Maher to podium finishes at Spruce Meadows and Dublin last season and posted a double‑clear to help Great Britain triumph on home soil at Hickstead. Maher, currently ranked world No. 4, is nursing a fractured foot but showed no signs of slowing down as he eyed Sunday’s $120,000 Bainbridge Companies CSI3* Grand Prix with Ginger‑Blue before a brief spell of rest.
