In Ocala, FL, Luis Pedro Biraben successfully guided his horse Chacco Bumpy to win the $40,000 Ste Michelle Grand Prix on Sunday.
The competition featured 27 horse-and-rider combinations, with only six clearing the initial round to proceed to the jump-off. Nigel Potts from Canada was the first in the jump-off with Orlando Van Klapscheut but knocked down a rail despite a swift pace. Jessica Mendoza from Great Britain, riding Summerhouse, followed with a clean round, setting the time to beat at 36.014 seconds. Kara Chad, aboard Corinna, also jumped clear but fell short of Mendoza’s time to finish in second place temporarily.
Biraben strategized for his jump-off run, noting the need to take a risk after watching the earlier competitors. His calculated inside turn helped him finish in 34.464 seconds, securing the win. Biraben praised his mare's speed and highlighted their successful seven-year partnership in major competitions.
