The 2025 Spring Series at World Equestrian Center – Ocala kicked off in thrilling fashion on Saturday evening with the $15,000 Modelo Regional Grand Prix. A competitive field of 46 horse-and-rider combinations tackled a challenging course designed by Chris Barnard, with only seven advancing to the decisive jump-off.
Robert Blanchette delivered a masterclass in precision and speed, claiming both first and second place aboard Coupis and Carnlea Premier Balou, respectively. Blanchette was the only competitor to qualify two horses for the jump-off, proving his consistency and skill. His first ride on Carnlea Premier Balou, owned by Ridersmith LLC, set the bar with a fast clear in 36.587 seconds, forcing his challengers to chase an ambitious time. Yann Candele followed with a clear round aboard Conny 409, finishing in 38.844 seconds, briefly securing second place.
However, Blanchette returned aboard his 18-year-old gelding, Coupis, and shaved down his own leading time, stopping the clock at 36.020 seconds to officially secure both first and second place. Blanchette, a frequent competitor at WEC – Ocala, praised the venue for its world-class competition and the opportunities it provides riders at all levels. The 2025 Spring Series continues, promising more exciting showdowns in the weeks ahead.
