Young Talent Takes Center Stage at the WIHS

The 2025 Washington International Horse Show, presented by MARS Equestrian™, opened its week of competition with a spotlight on emerging riders in the Children’s and Adult Hunter Championships. Rising to the top in the $12,500 Children’s Hunter Championship was Isabella Roman, who delivered two poised and polished rounds aboard Irocco Grey S, a 12-year-old KWPN gelding.

Setting the Standard Early

Roman’s first trip immediately caught the attention of judges Shane George and Keri Kampsen, earning an impressive score of 87 and placing her at the top of the leaderboard heading into the second round. Staying composed under pressure, Roman and the gray gelding—affectionately known as “Rocco”—returned to deliver another elegant effort, scoring 86 for a combined total of 173 to secure the championship title.

A Partnership Built on Trust

The connection between Roman and Rocco has been years in the making, founded on patience, trust, and consistency. Their effortless rhythm and quiet communication stood out throughout both rounds, underscoring the strength of their partnership.

Strong Performances Round Out the Podium

In a talented field, Geneva Saunders rode As Ever, a 17-year-old Holsteiner gelding, to the reserve championship with a total score of 168. Finishing close behind, Angelina Principe of and her seasoned partner Show Me earned third place on a score of 165, completing an exciting and competitive start to the week at WIHS.
