Amanda Derbyshire's win with Cornwall BH in the CSI2* Grand Prix Qualifier earlier in the week boded well for her win with the 18-year-old Hosteiner gelding in the CSI2* $62,500 Griffis Residential Grand Prix on Sunday, also on Derby Field at the Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) in Wellington. She was the last to go in the first round as well as the jump-off, and won it.
Luis Fernando Larrazabal of Venezuela and the 9-year-old mare Ribery came in second in the 1.45-meter Grand Prix.
Nicola Philippaerts and Derby de Riverland, the 13-year-old Selle Francais gelding, finished third.
Second and third places decided by a whisker
With 21 of the field of 44 qualifying for the jump-off, and 14 going double clear in the jump-off, times were tight. The closest was between second and third places, which were separated by one-hundredth of a second (0.01).
Margie Goldstein-Engle with Dicas was the fastest four-faulter in the first round, coming in 24th.
Emily Dehoff, who finished in seventh place, came in second in the Qualifier with Manou de Muze.
