Legacy Is Retired from Show Jumping

The 16-year-old Zangersheide mare Legacy, who enjoyed worldwide success under Irish rider Daniel Coyle, is retiring from show jumping. Her retirement was announced by owner Ariel Grange of Lothlorien Farm, on Instagram. In addition, Legacy, who delivered more than 29 1.60-meter podium finishes, was honored before the Longines FE Jumping World Cup™ on February 14.

A successful career at the highest level

Legacy (Chippendale Z x Bon Ami) was bred in Belgium by Romain Rotty and showed her exceptional talent early on. Her career as a top horse took off when she entered the international arena under Coyle. The pair were an integral part of the Irish team and achieved numerous successes, including participation in the 2021 and 2025 European Championships and the 2022 World Championships, where Coyle and Legacy finished 10th. The pair was also part of the Irish team at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.

Achievements and accolades – a look at the trophy cabinet

Legacy's consistent performance on the biggest international stages, particularly in the Longines FEI Jumping World Cup™ series, is unparalleled. Her highlights include World Cup victories in Toronto, Amsterdam, and Leipzig, as well as a CSI4*-W victory in Fort Worth. In addition, she won the CSI5* W London Grand Prix and the CSI5* MSLJ Grand Prix in Thermal, securing her a well-deserved place in the history of show jumping.

An emotional farewell and a look to the future

Saying goodbye to Legacy is an emotional decision not only for Coyle, but also for her owner, Ariel Grange. Grange explained that she considers the mare not only a sporting partner, but also a life-changing companion. Looking to the future, she explained that in retirement, Legacy will enjoy a life of green pastures and quiet days – possibly even with a few foals.
