Rachel Proudley and Easy Boy Win the LeMieux Puissance in London

It's all about the red wall. That's what 13 riders who entered the class had front of mind, but it was last year's home-turf winner, Rachel Proudley and Easy Boy de Laubry Z, who won the honor, dominating the wall and repeating a puissance win in London for the second consecutive year. The 20-year-old rider and 11-year-old Zangersheide gelding were the only horse and rider to go for round five, and they achieved a personal best, at 2.21m, or 7' 3", calmly and confidently clearing the new height to win the LeMieux Puissance at the London International Horse Show.

Last year, she and Easy Boy won the puissance in the fourth round, at 2.12m.

The runner-up falls, but it doesn't count

Four horse and rider combinations - two from Great Britain and two from Ireland - advanced to the fourth round. Nathan Bull and Casaltonia; Derek McCoppin and Explosief's Legacy; Andrew Hodgins and Shanaclough Luichew; and, of course, Proudley and Easy Boy, who, along with Bull and Casltonia, jumped clear. However, Casaltonia stumbled after clearing the 2.28m wall (7'2"), and Bull tumbled over the mare's head. Bull's fall, though, occurred after crossing the timers, so he did not incur any penalties and could continue to the fifth round. He elected to withdraw, leaving Proudley and Easy Boy to set their own record.

By the way, Proudley lost her right stirrup over the wall in the first round, seemingly unnerved.

Sebastian Hughes retired in the first round after Colorado balked at the wall. Instead, Hughes elected to jump one of the lead-in fences again, to leave the arena on a positive note. Eight made it to the third round, to jump 2.13m, or 7', and there'd been one set-up fence since the second round - a LeMieux triple bar.
