Genevieve Munson and her longtime partner Contendro Star took a decisive win in the $10,000 Summer Hill Farms 1.40m Welcome Stake on April 2 at the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show in Katy, Texas. The pair blazed through the jump-off in 34.765 seconds, topping a field of competitive entries in the Main Indoor Arena at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center.
Second place went to Allison Kroff and Irish du Caillou, who set an early jump-off time of 39.138 seconds. Diego Bedoya and Condialuba PS claimed third with a time of 39.357 seconds.
Seventeen-year-old Contendro Star, known as “Nigel” in the barn, has been partnered with Munson for five years. Their latest result marks another milestone in the gelding’s transition to the spotlight as one of her top mounts.
The pair now set their sights on Thursday’s $25,000 Frio Vodka Grand Prix, the first of two grand prix events during Week 2 of the prestigious three-week show.
Recognized as a US Equestrian Heritage Competition, the Pin Oak Charity Horse Show continues through April 13.
