A Stylish Start to Hunter Derby Friday

The first Hunter Derby Friday of November at World Equestrian Center – Wilmington (WEC) kicked off in style with the $10,000 USHJA National Non-Pro Hunter Derby. Fifteen talented entries took to the R+L Arena, but it was Vivian Heyer who rose to the occasion, earning her first career derby victory aboard her own seven-year-old Oldenburg gelding, A La Quattro S.

Smooth Rounds on a Flowing Track

Heyer entered the class with confidence, noting that course designer Joe Carnicom’s flowing tracks suited her mount’s rhythm and jumping style. The pair showcased smooth pacing, elegant form, and strong communication throughout the first round to earn a solid score of 80.

Precision in the Handy Round

Holding the lead heading into the handy round, Heyer returned determined to maintain her top position. With precision and composure, she piloted A La Quattro S to another steady and stylish round that earned an 84.5 from the judges. Their combined total of 164.5 secured the win by a narrow half-point margin, marking a memorable milestone in Heyer’s competitive journey.

A Milestone Moment

The class featured competitive performances from a talented non-pro field, with riders demonstrating both technical skill and thoughtful presentation. For Heyer and A La Quattro S, the victory represented the culmination of dedication, patience, and partnership, setting the tone for an exciting future in the derby ring.
