The featured $20,000 Golden Ocala 3’6”–3’9” Hunter Derby brought the afternoon to a close in Hunter 1, framed by the warm glow of a Florida sunset.
Evans and Clever Lead the Field
Jake Evans emerged victorious in the feature class, earning his first WEC 3’6”–3’9” Hunter Derby win aboard Isltime LLC’s Clever, a coming 14-year-old Holsteiner gelding by Casall out of Orchidee XIII. Evans and Clever set the tone early with a polished first round, producing a smooth, confident trip that earned the leading score of 88.
A Confident Handy Seals the Win
Returning last for the handy round with the pressure squarely on, Evans stayed focused on consistency and quality. The pair delivered another confident performance, showcasing tidy turns and opting for all four high-option fences. Their effort was rewarded with a standout handy score of 90, securing a two-round total of 178 and sealing the win.
A Strong Start to the Winter Spectacular
The performance marked a strong start to the 2026 Winter Spectacular Series and highlighted the depth of talent on display during Hunter Derby Friday at WEC – Ocala, with Evans and Clever setting the standard in the opening feature derby of the season.
