Freedom Wins $15,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby – Open

Jennifer Alfano and her talented partner, Freedom, emerged victorious in the $15,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby – Open during Pin Oak Charity Horse Show Week 3. Held on Friday, April 11, this prestigious derby showcased some of the best hunter talent, and the dynamic duo claimed the top spot with a stellar score of 189.5.

The 6-year-old North American Warmblood has quickly made a name for himself in the hunter world despite his young age. With his confident and mature demeanor, he’s been described as an “old soul” in a young body, an impressive quality for such a recent competitor. Originally sent to Jennifer Alfano to be sold, Freedom’s undeniable talent and character caught Alfano’s eye, and she quickly decided to keep him in her barn. This decision has proven fruitful, with their first derby win together marking a memorable achievement for the pair.

Following closely behind in second place was Natalee Haggan and MTM In Love, who scored 188. Haggan had previously clinched the win in the $10,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby – Open on April 5, continuing her impressive run during Pin Oak Week. Belynda Bond and SWS Gotham City rounded out the top three with a score of 187.5, just half a point behind Haggan, proving the competitiveness of the field.

Freedom’s win further solidified his bright future in the hunter ring, and with a strong partnership with Alfano, the pair is one to watch as the season progresses. The Pin Oak Charity Horse Show continues to showcase the best of the hunter world, with thrilling performances like this one leading the way.
