"There is no such word as can't."
This brand new ClipMyHorse.TV documentary focuses on Tim Stockdale's sporting legacy and the values of hard work and deep solidarity that continue to live on through his family after he died in 2018 at the age of 54. The focus is on his wife, Laura, and sons Mark and Joe, who carry on the family business and the values associated with it. The documentary traces the family's journey, which is characterized by sporting highlights, but also by personal challenges and a deep bond that has endured through everything.
Tim Stockdale – A life dedicated to the team and the sport
In 2002, Tim Stockdale represented Great Britain at the World Equestrian Games in Jerez and, together with the British team, flew the Union Jack in Beijing in 2008. His victory in the King George V Gold Cup at Hickstead in 2010, which fulfilled a lifelong dream, was another special highlight of his sporting career.
Tim Stockdale distinguished himself not only through his sporting success but also through his constant commitment to the team he was part of. His extraordinary work ethic left its mark to this day, as he was often the first to arrive at the stables in the morning and the last to leave in the evening.
From the cricket field to the international show jumping course
“Dad, I promise you I'll make you proud.” – “Don't make me proud 'cause I'm not going to be here to see it. Make yourself proud.”
His son Joe's professional career initially took a completely different direction: he was a talented cricketer at the Northamptonshire Academy and actually wanted to pursue his cricket career in Australia. However, his father's sudden illness led to a complete change of direction: at the age of just 19, Joe took over the management of the stable. In his final moments with his father, Joe promised to make him proud and achieve his unfulfilled goal of winning an Olympic medal.
Sporting milestones and looking ahead
The first major successes came quickly: in 2022, less than five years later, Joe Stockdale was already part of the British team that won the team bronze medal at the World Championships in Herning – riding the mare Cacharel selected by Tim. Two years later, Joe was finally nominated as a reserve for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. Even though this did not mean an Olympic medal, Joe has already made history: at Spruce Meadows, he won the Six Bar Jumping competition – the same event, the same venue where his father was victorious in 2011.
While Joe is following in his father's footsteps in show jumping, his brother Mark is pursuing a professional golf career in America, thanks to a scholarship – also with the goal of one day competing in the Olympic Games. In this way, both sons are bringing their father's motto to life: “There is no such word as can't” – with the hope of one day competing together in two different disciplines at the Olympic Games.
