Friday’s hunter action concluded on a high note with the $20,000 Golden Ocala 3’6”-3’9” Hunter Derby, where 28 top-caliber entries took to the ring in a competitive showcase of quality and style. Rising to the top was Jennifer Jones, who capped off a successful day by guiding Firstlee Farm’s Chivalrous to a milestone victory—the first big derby win of the gelding’s career at the 3’6”-3’9” level.
Strong First Round Sets the Tone
Jones and the nine-year-old Holsteiner gelding by Casall Ask delivered a confident and expressive performance in the opening round, setting the tone early with a score of 93. Chivalrous impressed with his scope, rhythm, and classic hunter presence, immediately placing the pair among the top contenders.
Handy Round Precision Seals the Deal
Sitting second heading into the handy round behind Amanda Steege and Lafitte De Muze, Jones returned knowing precision and execution would be key. The pair answered every question with polish and efficiency, showcasing smooth turns and seamless transitions to earn an outstanding handy score of 96.
Milestone Win at the 3’6”-3’9” Level
With a combined total of 189, Jones and Chivalrous secured the win, marking a significant step forward for the promising gelding as he continues to progress at the upper levels of derby competition.
