The World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses (WBFSH) has published the top dressage sires for 2025. This year's ranking is once again led by Johnson TN, followed by Totilas and Quaterback.
Johnson TN remains the benchmark
Johnson TN, the Dutch-bred son of Jazz out of a Flemmingh dam, is once again at the top of the WBFSH ranking. Under Hans Peter Minderhoud, Johnson was extremely successful in sport, including team bronze at the 2014 World Equestrian Games and team gold and individual bronze at the 2015 European Championships. His most important offspring include Boston STH, Great Escape Camelot and Hero, all of whom are successful at international level. To date, Johnson has produced a total of 38 licensed sons, 106 Grand Prix-successful offspring and even an offspring successful over 1.60 m.
Totilas moves from 4th to 2nd place, Quaterback remains in the top 3
Despite his death in 2020, Totilas remains one of the most influential dressage sires in recent history. Descended from Gribaldi x Glendale, he was the first dressage stallion to make history with a score of over 90% in an international Grand Prix. His sons, including Glock's Toto Jr, Governor-STR, Total U.S. and Total Hope, continue this lineage at the highest level. To date, Totilas has produced a total of 49 licensed sons and 32 successful offspring in Grand Prix sport.
Quaterback, who emerged as a 3-year-old Bundeschampion in 2006, occupies 3rd place in the current WBFSH ranking. The DSP stallion, descended from Quaterman x Brandenburger, was known for his elasticity and mechanics. Even after his death, his genetic presence remains strong: over 80 licensed sons and 76 offspring successful in Grand Prix sport are proof of his relevance in breeding. These include DSP Quantaz under Isabell Werth, Quadroneur and Qredit.
Vitalis is listed in 4th place, followed by Blue Hors Zack and Apache. Dante Weltino OLD slips from 31st to 7th place in the current ranking.
