From licensed stallion and winner of the performance test program to 1.60m Grand Prix stallion - Kannan Jr has made many dreams come true for his breeders, who remain co-owners to this day. Some of the world's best riders have already been in the saddle: Olympic riders Marcus Ehning and Jur Vrieling. With the support of Eldorado Sporthorses, the Cornet Obolensky son will now continue his career in Mexico.
"We have really enjoyed Kannan Jr and all the success he has brought us. We could only dream of this when we started," says Sjaak van der Lei. The former KWPN stallion show champion was recently sold to a Mexican rider who will use him at international level. Kannan Jr was bred by Sjaak van der Lei and the Kramer family, who kept him in co-ownership and gave him every opportunity to develop his full potential.
Zimmermann, Ehning and most recently Vrieling
Kannan Jr began his sporting career under Wolfgang Zimmermann, who carefully prepared him up to 1.40m level. Marcus Ehning then took him on to prepare him for higher classes. Kannan Jr made his international debut under Ehning, later Jur Vrieling took over the riding.
With Vrieling in the saddle, the talented stallion proved his quality at 5* level and fulfilled all expectations. Most recently, he took fifth place in the 1.60m Grand Prix of the Longines Global Champions Tour in New York.
Kannan Jr first won the hearts of the public at the 2018 KWPN Stallion Show, where he impressed with his strength, elasticity and presence and became champion of his year. Since then, he has more than fulfilled this early promise both in sport and as a licensed stallion at KWPN, Westfalen and Zangersheide.
His pedigree, very special
He is a son of Cornet Obolensky, one of the most influential show jumping sires of our time, and his granddam is the full sister of Kannan. This means he combines two of the strongest and most proven bloodlines in modern show jumping.
"Kannan Jr shows and passes on enormous quality over the fences," say breeders Sjaak van der Lei and Wobbe Kramer. "He is careful, intelligent and has exceptional ability. We built him up step by step and always made sure he was accompanied by the right people."
