Captures Opening World Cup event at Los Angeles

Holland's Mathijs van Asten Rides Orlando van de Afspanning to Los Angeles Opening World Cup Contest

Holland's Mathijs van Asten posts his first American victory on Orlando van de Afspanning in capturing the opening World Cup event at Los Angeles Wednesday night.

Mathijs rode the USA-owned 11-year-old gelding to a double clear with a jump off time of 25.70 secs. in the 1.45-meter CSI5*. Mathijs competed Orlando in one event in Europe in June then took up the reins again in the first week of this show.

Nicole Walker of Canada on the 15-year-old Atout des Trambles was runner-up on 27.26 secs.

Laura Kraut, the American who is the highest ranked woman at No. 8 in the world placed third on the nine-year-old mare Lady D in the $35,000 competition with 82 starting combinations.
