Jessica Mendoza Claims First 5* Victory in $400,000 Longines Hampton Classic Grand Prix

Jessica Mendoza of Great Britain captured her first career 5* win at the Longines Hampton Classic, riding In The Air to a spectacular double-clear in 37.34 seconds on Sunday. The pair was one of only two combinations to go clear over a challenging 1.60m, 17-effort track designed by Nick Granat.

A Competitive Jump-Off

The jump-off featured three riders: Kristen Vanderveen (USA) on Bull Run’s Jireh, Mendoza on In The Air, and Shane Sweetnam (IRL) aboard James Kann Cruz. Vanderveen’s bold attempt ended with one rail down, while Mendoza delivered a flawless, swift round to set the pace. Sweetnam also produced a clear, finishing in 37.90 seconds, narrowly missing the top spot.

  • 1st: Jessica Mendoza – In The Air
  • 2nd: Shane Sweetnam – James Kann Cruz
  • 3rd: Kristen Vanderveen – Bull Run’s Jireh
