They Did It! Tom Wachman and Do It Easy Win the Turkish Airlines Grand Prix

Ireland's Tom Wachman closed out the final CSI5* jumper class of the London International Horse Show Monday evening with a victory aboard the 12-year-old Selle Francais gelding Do It Easy. This marked the 20-year-old rider's first time competing at the five-day London show, and he's leaving not only with this win, but decent placings in some of the show's other FEI jumper classes.

After picking up two time faults but jumping clear in the first round of the 1.60m World Cup on a different mount on Sunday (finishing 10th), Wachman commented that he realized he needed to pick up the pace to ensure he returns for the jump-off. And he succeeded in Monday's Grand Prix, as one of five horse and rider combinations in the jump-off, each from a different country.

Kara Chad finishes second, Max Kühner is third

Canada's Kara Chad was the first to go in a field of 35 in the first round, and jumped double clear with Igor GPH. She returned with the 12-year-old Dutch Warmblood geldiing as the first to go in the jump-off, and was clear with a time of 33.64 seconds. Max Kühner rode second in the jump-off with Greece 5 and tried to chase Chad's time with the 11-year-old Hosteiner mare, but fell about half-a-second short. Tom Wachman was third to go and laid down the winning trip.

As the highest-placing British rider in the Grand Prix, and 50 years Wachman's senior, legendary show jumper John Whitaker, who finished fourth, received a trophy.

The fastest four-faulter was France's Kevin Staut with the 9-year-old Zangersheide mare Vida Loca Z.

Four faults, again and again

Four faults in the first round was a common occurence, and the faults were peppered throughout the course that was designed by Alan Wade. However, there were a few fences that seemed to hit the ground more often. Twelve riders left the indoor arena with four jumping faults.
