A New Year, A New Winter Circuit in Florida

Three hunter/jumper shows started competition Wednesay, signalling the start of the winter circuit.

WEF (Winter Equestrian Festival)

Jumper classes include the $35,000 Adequan WEF Challenge Cup Premiere Round on Thursday, and the $25,000 Hermès 1.50m Championship Jumper Classic on Saturday. Also, Saturday Night Lights features the $75,000 Battles of the Sexes presented by LeMieux. The $75,000 Dodd Technologies Grand Prix is Sunday afternoon.

The USHJA International Hunter Derby, Classic Round, is Friday.

WEC (World Equestrian Center)

The Winter Spectacular series at WEC opens this week. In jumpers, the $24,500 WEC Welcome Prix (1.45m) takes place Thursday. The $15,000 1.40m Jumper Classic is Friday, and the $75,000 WEC Grand Prix (1.50m) is Saturday night (7pm EST).

For the hunters, there is a $15,000 USHJA National Hunter Derby 3' Open and then a $15,000 USJHA National Hunter Derby 3' Jr./Am. The $20,000 WEC 3'6" 3'9" Derby follows as the final class of the day in the derby ring.

HITS Ocala

Competition at HITS Ocala runs through Sunday. Post Time Premier I marks the first week of 12 consecutive weeks of hunter/jumper classes, including two hunter derbies Friday - the $2,500 USHJA National Hunter Derby followed by the $2,500 USHJA JR/AM Hunter Derby.

For jumpers, highlights are the $2,500 Open Welcome (1.35-1.40m) on Thursday; $7,500 Open Speed (1.35m) on Friday; and the $24,500 Grand Prix (1.40m) (1.35m-1.40m) on Saturday.
