Improving the Canter Pirouette:
During canter work, Steffen recommends using a spiraling exercise to develop the canter pirouette. He emphasizes keeping the inside hind leg active without letting it step too far underneath. If the canter becomes too collected or loses energy, riders should reduce the degree of haunches-in and slightly enlarge the circle to encourage more impulsion and activity. To help the horse stay relaxed and supple, Steffen also advises allowing the horse to stretch briefly while maintaining the canter.
