Breeding highlight of the year is the Stallion Licensing and the Stallion Sales in October. Several hundred of two-year-old stallions show up during the selection in front of the Licensing Committee a couple of weeks before – and only the best qualify for the important Finale. Highest demands are required for a positive licensing result such as quality of movement, conformation, free jumping and health status. Some certainly consider the selection to be too strict, but exactly these strict selection regulations turned the Hanoverian horse into what it is today: a horse breed with highest international reputation. And experts have long recognized this as they regularly secure the Hanoverian jewels for themselves. And this is why the Olympic competitor Desperados FRH and Codex One, the “Sire of the World” Scendix and the competitors at the Federal Championshps, Bobcat, Stakko and Bodyguard have one thing in common: They were all discovered at the Stallion Market. One of the visionary steps of the Hannoveraner Verband was also to abolish the title of a Champion Stallion in 2007 and since that time, the best of their age-group are honoured with a unique premium.  However, the Hannoveraner Verband awards two prizes for some particular breeding heroes: The Grande-Prize and the title “Stallion of the Year”. Both awards are meant to honour sires with outstanding accomplishments for breeding: Breeding giants like Weltmeyer, De Niro, Lauries Crusador xx and Stakkato were already nominated “Stallion of the Year”. The Grande-Prize was inaugurated in 2009 and is dedicated for stallions aged about 10 as at this age, first secured results can be determined when it comes to their prepotency.
