The Holsteiner spring auction on 14 April is just around the corner. About 40 promising young talents have made it into the auction catalogue.

The 33rdHolsteiner spring auction at Elmshorn is held four weeks later than usual to give the new marketing manager, Roland Metz, some time to settle in. Swabia-born Metz has been working at Elmshorn since 1 March now, with the auction horses having been selected by Holsteiner Verband marketing and auction GmbH team, and Thies Luther providing help and advice. Roland Metz got his first impression of the auction candidates at the catalogue photo shooting. “I was profoundly impressed by the professionalism displayed by the entire auction team and the good form of the horses. The lots’ quality is good, throughout. Most interesting is that we have got a broad and diverse range of sport horses on offer for our customers, from promising three-year-old diamond in the rough to mature, ready-to-compete show jumper.“
Ten three-year-olds to be presented free jumping and 31 riding horses in the 4-7 age bracket have moved into their box stalls at the Elmshorn auction stable. A first look at their pedigrees reveals interesting and diverse bloodlines. From Baloubet du Rouet son Barcley, now trained and produced at the yard of Christian Hess, through international level sport stallion Christian to the likes of Uriko, Dinken, Quiwi Dream and Cachas, attracting more and more attention for their successful offspring. However, not to forget the stallions speaking for themselves like for example Vagabond de la Pomme, Cassini I, Clarimo, Cellestial, Corrado I, Toulon and of course Casall and his sons.
But the Holsteiner studbook owing its quality very much to its dams as well, the marketing team has also succeeded in attracting numerous auction horses from highly interesting mare families, like for example four-year-old Companion by Companiero. His third dam Taura’s produce not only includes the licensed stallions Cesano I and II and Ringo Star but also seven successful sport horses, including  Conally and Crocodile Dandy, two of Markus Renzel’s success horses. This direct dam line has also produced Casall’s dam Kira. And the three-year-old lot comprises a half sister to a reserve National Champion: we are talking about Cocobeach by Christian-Cassini I. By Cormint, her dam produced the mare Dorotheental’s Canela, Warendorf’s five-year-old eventing horse silver medallist with Lotte Palmgren in 2018. “Some of the three-year-old diamonds in the rough would hardly have been available on the free market“, Sigrun Günter is certain. The long-time Holsteiner Verband employee supports Roland Metz all along the line.

But this is not all, as there are interesting horses in every age group, like for example Dalton, a four-year-old Dinken offspring. His third dam’s produce includes BB Cardinale, winner of team bronze at the Kopenhagen junior rider Europeans with Swiss rider Roland Birchler. Beyond these promising youngsters, the lot offers horses ready to compete in the upcoming showing season under the saddle of pros as well as ambitious amateur riders, one example being Laola by Lenett-Corrado I. A likeable mare influenced by TB blood, she already boasts results in young horse jumping classes through M level. From unbacked three-year-old to seasoned seven-year-old jumper, the Holsteiner spring auction collection again caters to every taste.
