On 13 and 14 June, the 2017 State Dressage Horse and Jumping Champions will be selected during the Holsteiner Horse Days. Elmshorn has been the first stepping stone of many impressive careers like for example of Casall by Caretino, who headed the 6-year-olds 12 years ago. The top Schleswig-Holstein riders are to present their promising youngster at the Elmshorn race track, competing for the Champion titles. It will be the last time the competition is held on grass: right after the Horse Days, excavators will arrive to prepare the ground for the new sandy surface.
Horses may be shown in ridden classes selecting participants for the Warendorf Bundeschampionat, young dressage horse classes at A through M level as well as (young horse) show jumping classes at A, L, M, and S level with horses competing for 5- and 6-year-old State Champion in dressage and show jumping as well as 7-year-old Show Jumping State Champion. Moreover, this year will see the first 4-year-old State Jumping Champion. After Behrendorf, the Fritz-Thiedemann hall offers dressage riders with 5- and 6-year-old horses a second opportunity for earning points towards the Dressage Horse Cup final held at the Bad Segeberg State Horse Show. The partner and business circle Holsteiner Masters, committed in particular to training and advancement of young Holsteiner jumping horses, will be in the boat as well. The breeders of the four show jumping state champions will be rewarded with 750 euros each. The breeder must be present and accept the cheque in person, however, otherwise the prize is forfeit. Moreover, there is another special treat for the six-year-olds, as the top three in the state championship qualify for the Holsteiner Masters Zukunftspreis at the Baltic Horse Show again. This year, the Holsteiner Masters will also reward the dedication of the dressage horse breeders, as the breeders of the 5- and 6-year-old Dressage Horse State Champion are to receive a 500 euros check each, when present at the event.
Elite Mare Show
Even with mare inspections in the breeding districts still going on by deadline, according to breeding director Dr.Thomas Nissen’s prediction visitors to the Holsteiner Horse Days at Elmshorn will be in for a slightly smaller, but very high-quality starter field comprising 3-year-old fillies by young stallions same as daughters by proven sires.
The optional free jumping for 3-year-old fillies scheduled on Tuesday evening is a first time event. “We are expecting about 15 entries”, says Dr.Thomas Nissen. Even though the free jumping does not affect the mares’ inspection marks, “it is definitely a helpful tool to emphasize our mares’ athleticism”, according to Dr. Thomas Nissen.
With the best 3-year-old fillies in the country to enter the triangle on 14 June, noon will tell us who is to take over the crown from last year’s exceptional champion mare, Festel by Cascadello I.
26 Foals for Sale at Auction
On 14 June, the second of the Holsteiner Horse Days, clients are given another opportunity to secure a high-quality produce from the land between the seas’ breeding programme. 26 selected colt and filly foals are expected to step into the auction ring. Prospective buyers may not only expect offspring by proven sport stallions, but also foals by young sires have proved convincing to the selection panel (Sigrun Günther, Ove Asmussen, and Hans-Joachim Ahsbahs). “We have selected thrilling foals out of high-quality dams“, Hans-Joachim Ahsbahs said upon concluding the selection, “and I have got the feeling that today’s breeders are much more up to the actual demands of the market”. 5-year-old Plot Blue son Million Dollar, currently one of the most in-demand stallions of the Holsteiner Verband stallion keeping GmbH, has the most offspring at Elmshorn. The above mentioned Catch has one offspring in the auction, same as his sire Colman. Other young stallions represented by promising offspring are Barcley (by Baloubet du Rouet), Kingsroad (by Kannan) and Quibery (by Quintero), the last named with two convincing foals. Of course Caretino son Casall and his son Cascadello I are also represented in the auction, as their foals easily convinced the selection panel same as those by Limbus son Livello, responsible for maintaining the L line in Holstein. These stallions are represented by two offspring, each. Young colts and fillies by high-profile sires like Balou du Rouet, Cash and carry, Comme il faut, Cornet Obolensky, For Pleasure, Stakkato, Vagabond de la Pomme and Van Gogh provide prospective buyers with a wide choice for securing a top Holsteiner for breeding and/or sport.
