2025 Great British Highlights
Stockdale - A Film about a Family
“There is no such word as can’t."
These words defined Tim Stockdale — as a rider, a mentor, a father, and a man.
Stockdale – A Film about a Family is a 60-minute, deeply emotional documentary that honours one of British showjumping’s most iconic figures by telling his story through those who knew him best. At its heart is not only Tim’s extraordinary career, but the family bond, values, and resilience that continue to shape his legacy.
Through intimate access and honest, heartfelt storytelling, the film follows Joe Stockdale, who stepped into his father’s footsteps at the highest level of the sport, alongside his brother Mark Stockdale and their mother Laura Stockdale. Together, they reflect on a life built on passion, belief, and the unshakeable conviction that limitations exist only if you accept them.
The documentary is enriched by voices from across the international showjumping world, including Ben Maher, Peter Charles, William Funnell, Harry Charles, Di Lampard, Nick Brooks-Ward, and close friends of the family such as Jack Whitaker, Will Fletcher, and Graham Fletcher, as well as Tim’s identical twin brother Ivan Stockdale. Their stories paint a powerful portrait of Tim as a competitor, a mentor, and a man who inspired belief in others long before they believed in themselves.
From early promise to international success, from moments of adversity to unforgettable triumphs, Stockdale – A Film about a Family is both a celebration and a remembrance. Above all, it is a film about love, legacy, and the strength of family — and about a mindset that lives on: "there is no such word as can’t."
