Improving Rhythm & Control with a Young Horse

Top trainer Holly Smith works with rider Laura Dimelow and her 5-year-old young horse on developing rhythm, control and a soft, consistent connection through focused flatwork exercises.

They concentrate on improving the horse’s balance and engagement, using trot–canter transitions to encourage it to sit more on the hind leg and become more supple and responsive. Through subtle, precise adjustments, Holly helps Laura create a lighter, more rideable horse that moves with rhythm, straightness and activity from behind.

The session emphasizes a steady, elastic contact and an active hind end, helping to build the foundations for balance, self-carriage, and harmony between horse and rider.
