Countdown to Thanksgiving

Horsin’ Around

Countdown to Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is just 10 days away, and while most of the world is thinking about stuffing, pies, and planning the perfect feast, the barn has its own version of holiday chaos. Between grooming, feeding, and sneaky treats, there’s plenty of “horsin’ around” happening before we all gather at the table.

Barn Life Before the Feast

As Thanksgiving approaches, horses seem to feel the holiday vibes too. Some are bouncing off the walls with pre-holiday energy, others are mysteriously lazy, and a few are downright opinionated about leaving the pasture. Extra points if your horse refuses to move until you acknowledge that, yes, today is still not a holiday for them.

Riding Plans: Quick Fun Before the Holiday

With the countdown on, it’s the perfect time for short, playful rides or low-pressure lessons. Crossrails, trail hacks, or a little groundwork can keep your horse happy while saving your energy for the approaching festivities. And if your horse throws in an impromptu buck or a sassy stop? Just remember—they’re getting out some of that pre-Thanksgiving excitement in their own way.

Thankful for Our Four-Legged Friends

With the holiday spirit in the air, it’s a great reminder of what we’re truly thankful for: our horses. Whether it’s the calm companion who listens to your rants, the spunky youngster keeping you on your toes, or the seasoned jumper making you look like a pro (even if only for a few strides), they make the barn a little brighter every day.

Mini Holiday Fun at the Barn

Feeling festive? Try a little Thanksgiving-themed fun: carve carrots into “turkeys,” add a pumpkin to your horse’s turnout, or go for a trail ride imagining endless pumpkin patches. Silly, fun, and stress-free—it’s the perfect way to get both you and your horse into the holiday spirit.
