Taylor Cawley put on a masterclass at the PBIA North American Junior Equitation Championships, rising to the top of a field of 125 riders with her mount, Cheap Trick WM Z. The nine-year-old Zangersheide gelding, owned by Ardencote Stud, may be new to the equitation ring, but he’s already building an impressive résumé with Cawley—adding this championship to their Gladstone Cup victory earlier in the summer.
A Course Designed to Test Precision
Course designers Meghan Rawlins, Ken Krome, and Joe Carnicom built two thoughtful tracks that challenged accuracy and adaptability with elements like in-and-outs, a wall, and a triple bar. Riders were scored by three panels of judges, with six officials in total contributing to the results.
A Commanding Performance
Cawley’s polished ride in round one earned her a 91, putting her in the lead heading into the second round. Returning last in the order, she delivered once again with a 92.5, finishing on an impressive 183.5 overall—enough to secure the win by a comfortable margin, without the need for a test.
A Bright Future Ahead
It was a day that highlighted talent, polish, and horsemanship—with Cawley and Cheap Trick WM Z proving once again that they are a pair to watch in the equitation arena.
