This week marks the final stages of the Winter Equestrian Festival, highlighted by Rolex Finale week, which attracts top competitors.
Notably absent is Richard Vogel's trusted horse, United Touch 'S', as he prepares to showcase younger horses. Vogel expresses enthusiasm for Wellington as an ideal starting point for the season, focusing on developing his horses. He appreciates the region for its excellent training facilities, including both sand arenas and grass fields. Vogel also comments on the competitive nature of the sport, emphasizing the unpredictability of outcomes at the highest level. He notes the recent success of Emilie Conter, who demonstrated that talent can lead to unexpected victories in events like the CSI5* Grand Prix. Vogel attributes some of his learning to rider McLain Ward, highlighting the importance of listening to one's horse and remaining adaptable.
Meanwhile, Kent Farrington from the USA shared his perspective during a panel discussion, looking ahead to the coming competitions with hopes of reclaiming the world number one ranking which has been occupied by Henrik Von Eckermann for the past 31 months. Farrington insists that focusing on performance rather than positions can lead to better outcomes in competitions, maintaining a positive outlook for the season ahead.
