Developing piourettes: How to prepare a good canter?

Developing piourettes: How to prepare a good canter?

Why are piourettes so hard to ride? Well the answer is pretty easy; because they are one of the movements that ask the most of the rider. In the piourettes you see is the rider able to use all his aids: inside and outside driving aids, being independent from the reins and the coordination of all of them together.

In the video you can see Blue an 11-year-old gelding by xx. He is a quite hot and sensitive horse and often likes to overbend himself. The goal of the training session is to show how horse and rider work in the canter to develop and prepare piourettes. Blue is ridden by Philipp Hess (Hof Bettenrode, GER), the son of the trainer Christoph Hess.
